Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to get started?

The best way to start dancing is with our introductory special. You'll get a tour of the studio and meet with a Briora Ballroom dance instructor for one 45 minute private lesson, where you'll learn some basic steps in two or three dances of your choice. It is an easy and fun way to learn about our dance programs and discover what classes are right for you.

What shoes should I wear?

Wear shoes that are comfortable and stay securely on the foot (avoid flip flops). It is best to wear shoes that will slide on a wood floor - shoes with a sole made of rubber or other material that grips the floor can make some movements more difficult. A slight heel is nice for ladies. If you decide to continue your lessons regularly, we recommend purchasing ballroom dance shoes with a suede sole.

Do I need a partner?

No partner is necessary, many students dance with their instructor or other students they meet at our classes and parties. Since our instructor will teach you to dance with whomever you come with, we recommend that your partner is someone to whom you are married or with whom you are in a serious relationship. If you have a friend you would like to dance with, then let's set them up with an introductory special, too!

What clothing should I wear?

Wear something that makes you feel good and is easy to move in.  Trousers and a nice shirt are recommended for the gentlemen, and ladies may wear the same or choose a skirt, if desired.  Regular students may wish to purchase ballroom dance practice wear – there are some great options available in our dance wear shop.

What dances do you teach?

We specialize in partner dancing and teach all the most popular ballroom, Latin American, and nightclub style dances - waltz, tango, swing, salsa and more!
